How It Works
DocuAssist uses RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) — when you ask a question, the AI:
- Searches your documents for the most relevant passages.
- Builds an answer based only on those passages.
- Shows you the source citations so you know where the answer came from.
The AI will not invent answers from general knowledge — it stays within your documents.
AI Wiki context (Premium & Team)
If you have generated an AI Wiki for your Knowledge Base, the AI also receives pre-synthesized summaries of all your documents before searching. This significantly improves answers for questions that span multiple documents — such as totals, comparisons, and summaries.
To set up AI Wiki, see Knowledge Base settings.
Starting a Chat
- Open a Knowledge Base.
- Click Open Chat.
- Type your question in natural language and press Enter.
Language
You can ask questions in any language. The AI will respond in the same language you used — even if your documents are in a different language.
Citations & Sources
Every AI response includes source references at the bottom. Click a source to see the exact excerpt from your document that was used.
Conversation History
Your conversations are saved automatically. Access them from the sidebar under the Knowledge Base. You can:
- Continue a previous conversation.
- Delete a conversation.
AI Models
| Plan | Model Used | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free / Basic | Standard model | Fast, efficient |
| Premium / Team | Advanced model | Superior reasoning and context |
Thinking Mode
If Thinking Mode is enabled on your Knowledge Base (Premium/Team), the AI uses extended reasoning before answering — ideal for complex questions involving multi-step logic or large documents.
Limitations
- The AI only answers based on your uploaded documents.
- Very long documents are split into chunks — very specific questions may need a more precise upload structure.
- Chat history is stored per Knowledge Base, not globally.
